MBGreen Logo 2013 Welcome to the first stop aboard Magical Blogorail Green. Enjoy the ride as we share some of the extras you can find at Disney during the Holidays.
When I went to Disney World in December of 2007, I had the chance to do the Yuletide Fantasy Tour.  This tour takes you backstage at Epcot, the Magic Kingdom, Disneys Holywood Studios, and the Christmas Warehouse.  I highly recommend this tour if you’re in WDW during the holiday season.  Without posting too many spoilers, the top 5 parts of the tour were:’

1.  Our leader told us how the decorations in Germany were red and green because those are the colors used in Germany proper.  She also explained how the US tradition of ornaments started in Germany-the German glass blowers made ornaments to decorate the traditional Christmas tree. The owner of Woolworth’s liked them, so he bought them and sent them to the US. We also learned about the tradition of the pickle. It’s a blown glass pickle that you hide on your tree. The first child to find the pickle gets an extra gift*.

2.  Hearing the background of the various decorations at the Osborne Lights.

3.  Seeing the Holiday warehouse.  You have been to Home Depot, right?  Imagine that holding Holiday decorations.  It’s where Disney stores all their Christmas stuff-as this time of year is the only one where the whole resort is decorated.

4.  Fun fact:  they move the Magic Kingdom’s Christmas Tree for the parade taping so that you can see the stage.

5.  Our tour guides told us a story about when Diane Disney Miller was little and on the precipice of not believing in Santa, Walt had an Imagineer call as Santa to describe the dollhouse she wanted, and then had him build it.  She was amazed it was exactly as described.

*We have actually had a pickle on our tree, although we do it by raffle as people arrive.

The Yuletide Fantasy Tour is $89 for adults, and there are discounts for Disney Visa holders and DVC members.

I’m saddened to announce that this will be my last post on the Blogorail Green for a long time.  Although I have loved being a part of it for the past three years, i will be leaving.
